Home Security System

When it comes to securing your home, you do not have to rely on just door locks, window latches and a good dog anymore.

Today, there are several different types of security systems available for the home. However, when it comes to picking a home security system, the amount of different options can make the choice a little difficult, to say the least. The first thing that you will want to know is what sort of systems are available.

Home Security System Monitoring

One of the most common systems these days are what is known as a monitoring system. These systems are normally attached to alarms that are connected to your home’s windows and doors. A home security system such as this one works in this way. You will have alarms connected to all doors and windows as well as a control box with is normally placed on a wall by the front door, unless you request it be placed elsewhere. If a window or door alarm is triggered then a loud alarm is blasted out of the control box as well as sending an alert to the monitoring company, which they will in turn relay to your local police. In addition, there is a motion sensor, which is located on top of most control boxes, as a fail safe if for some reason the window and door alarms are somehow bypassed. The alarm control box is also programmed with a code and if you enter the home with a key, you will have 60 seconds to disarm the alarm before it goes off.

Another type of  home security system is an outdoor alarm. This uses a combination of simple intruder deterrents, such as floodlights, that will come on if someone approaches the home. If the person comes to a certain point and does not key in a code on an outside keypad, an alarm will sound. In some cases, these alarms will be monitored as well. These systems are very effective; however, they are also more expensive than floodlights alone.

Of course, there are plenty of other things that can come along with a home security system today, such as close circuit TV’s, wireless intercoms and the list goes on and on. However, if your home needs to be secured far beyond a good door lock and some window latches then
